A Little Inspiration...
At Autism 2 Awesome, we believe that a little inspiration can make a world of difference and have included a little something that has inspired us in the hopes that it can do the same for you.

Musicians from Millburn, New Jersey have recorded an album compiled of songs written about the "joys and difficulties" of raising an autistic child.  The songs were written by John O'Neil and performed by multiple artists including Teddy Geiger and Jackson Browne.  Proceeds from the album, entitled Songs of the Spectrum, go to the autistic group of your choice.

You can purchase Songs of the Spectrum or find more information about the album and artists at this page.

Two government studies find autism disorders in 1 in 100 U.S. children
Two new government studies show that about 1 in 100 American children have autism disorders as compared to a previous estimate of 1 in 150 children.  Whether this increase is due to broader definitions of autism and thus more frequent diagnosis is a matter of some debate though researchers fear that these numbers reveal a true increase in the rates of autism.

Autism 2 Awesome Emergency Form
Every parent or guardian worries that their child will go missing; for the parents or guardians of autistic children, this fear is magnified because of their child's special needs and care.  If you do find yourself in a situation where your child is missing, we have created an emergency information sheet that you can fill out and keep on-hand to help law enforcement provide the proper care for your child.  The form allows you to list your child's medications,  behavior, characteristics, allergies and more so that if an emergency does come, you will not need to scramble to give the proper information.

We encourage you to keep the sheet with parents, schools, and childcare providers.

How To Get Dad More Involved?
This article comes to us from About.com, an unlikely but extremely informative source of information regarding autism and its impact on a family.  In this article, Dr. Bob Neesef and Dr. Cindy Ariel answer the question of how to get a man to help their partners and their families by becoming more involved with their child's treatment without making him feel like he is a bad father.

Read their answers at About.com.  Be sure to check out About.com's family issues and autism Q&A section as well!

Brain Imaging Sheds Light On Social Woes Related to Autism
Studies in Britain show that the autistic brain is less active than the non-autistic brain when self-reflecting.  This gives evidence to the probability that the autistic brain is atypical in its ability to process information.  This also suggests that a reason for poor social development among autistic children could be this inability to distinguish information about oneself and others--creating no social link between the child and others.
