A Little Inspiration
At Autism 2 Awesome, we believe that a little inspiration can make a world of difference and have included a little something that has inspired us in the hopes that it can do the same for you.

Charlie's Eyes
I am angry when you don't understand me.
My rage consumes me.
I have no words for your ears to hear. So I scream. And scream. And scream.
My rage consumes me.
Maybe, if I hit and bang and throw, you will understand.
My rage consumes me.
Can you hear me now?

Love me.
Love me as I am.
That is how I love you.
Love me beyond the stares of the unknowing.
They are in your world.
Love me in mine.
                                -Angela

This month's inspiration is but a snippet of a larger poem. Please read it here.  A larger collection of poems and inspirational writings can be found at Love is Patient: Autism Poetry and Writing.
The Disappearing Male

"The Disappearing Male" is a forty-four minute documentary which takes a look at the effect toxins commonly found in our world have had on the male reproductive system.  In addition to genital deformities and reproductive abnormalities, "The Disappearing Male" also discusses how these chemicals (found everywhere, from shampoo to baby bottles and more) are suspected to have led to a higher incidence of ADHD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, cerebral palsy and dyslexia.

The documentary was originally created by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and more information may be found at their website.  We would also like to suggest that you visit some of their extra features, including background information about the chemicals discussed within the film, the endocrine system, and a fact sheet about male infertility.

If you have difficulty viewing the documentary from CBC's website, here are some alternate links:

Mr. Dad
Ask Mr. Dad

Armin Brott, or Mr. Dad, is committed to providing information to fathers with children of various ages by answering questions directly from the fathers themselves.

We found this question about reducing strain in families with children with special needs interesting, particularly when he discusses resources for support and the importance of fathers playing and communicating with their children.

"Researchers at the University of Florida did a study where they taught dads to use everyday activities like building blocks, puppets, cars and trucks, and bubbles to connect with their autistic children..."

Find out the results of this study by reading Mr. Dad!
